A treasure of traditional craftsmanship in the heart of Sweden; Ulla-Maj Bergman.

In the middle of summer, short winding steps create a vegetable staircase, which leads me to the entrance to the home where Ulla-Maj Bergman and her recently deceased husband Rolf Nyström (a true wood sculpting talent) created much of their art.

Crossing the lintels in your home is no small feat. Visiting Ulla Maj is a short step into a magical world characterized by elegance, good taste and above all a lot of imagination and creativity. Every corner of the property is naturally impregnated with creative and imaginative details where nothing clashes and everything is in perfect balance as if each object had found its perfect place for itself.

Perhaps because her first training was as a decorator, or perhaps because they both had a deep sense of aesthetics, their home is the envy of many who yearn to create a comfortable and welcoming space, as well as elegant and imaginative.

Ulla Maj is not just another weaver, she is different. She is a true artist.

Why? because Ulla Maj has achieved everything that many aspire to. Not only is she capable of making her own designs for winter garments made by crocheting or knitting in wool, linen and cotton with a choice of color and combination that is beautiful and sensual as her personality, she not only knows classic and traditional techniques that are typically Swedish and endangered to disappear..., not only do her fabrics have the beauty and emotions interwoven, but also as the best watercolorist, or the best oil painter, Ulla Maj creates beautiful Swedish landscapes and romantic motifs with her working techniques with cloth, with absolute detail and style. Never has fabric recycling been so creative, innovative and elegant.

Many of her best creations have already been sold in the various exhibitions she has held since in 1985, she began her journey by sharing her creations in galleries, so I can only share some photos of these wonders.

Here I share some of her embroidery

She also showed me some of her knitted catalog to sell to clients like me, eager for warm, beautiful and original garments. (By the way, if you want to contact her, in Sweden, you can do so by calling 070 303 41 50)

And some crochet home pieces:

Finally, I do not want to fail to mention his honesty and respect as a rescuer of traditional techniques.

Here, Ulla Maj explains how she made these gloves using a knitting technique created by Maria Larsson born in 1875.

To conclude, until my next post I leave you a small sample of the art of her husband Rold Nyström, who brilliantly provided movement and emotion to his works carved in wood (Whittling)
